As of 1/22/22:

• Ongoing Weekly Testing Through February: Testing will continue for students and employees, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Anyone who has had a positive COVID-19 test in the previous 90 days is exempt from the weekly, in-school PCR testing.

 

• Upgraded Masks: Students will be required to wear a non-cloth mask with a nose wire at all times, including while participating in athletic activities.
  • Schools will provide surgical-style masks for students and employees if they need them.

Isolation instructions for an employee or student who test positive:

• If  tested positive at a non-LA Unified site, be sure the test result is uploaded into the Daily Pass. 

• Stay home until at least five days have passed since symptoms first appeared and there is no fever for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication). Symptoms such as shortness of breath and cough should also improve before going back to a school site. Anyone who has a condition that severely weakens the immune system may need to stay home for longer and should consult with their healthcare provider.

• The student or the employee should take a rapid antigen COVID-19 test on day five (the day the student or employee tests positive is day zero). If they test negative on that test, have not had a fever for at least 24 hours, and have improving symptoms, they may return to school or work.

• If a student or staff who tests positive is asymptomatic, they still must stay home for at least five days after the positive test result and test negative on a rapid antigen test taken on day five.

• If the test on the 5th day is positive, and/or they are still symptomatic, they should stay home for 10 calendar days.

• After completing the isolation period and meeting the above criteria, the student or employee will receive clearance via the Daily Pass to return.

• If the individual does not take a test and they remain asymptomatic, they can return after day 10.

Employees and students who have tested positive for COVID-19 and completed their isolation period should not take another COVID-19 PCR test for 90 days because of the possibility of a false-positive result.

What is the quarantine policy for students or staff considered a "close contact" to someone who tested positive for the virus?

All quarantine situations are unique. Students and staff who are considered “close contacts” to a positive case (within six feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24 hour period or had unprotected contact with their bodily fluids) will receive different quarantine guidelines depending on their vaccination status, potential symptoms, and recent recovery from a confirmed case of COVID.

Fully vaccinated students and fully vaccinated (and boosted, if eligible) employees or individuals recovered from PCR-confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days will not be required to quarantine, but should test on the 5th day of exposure and monitor for symptoms as a precaution. Unvaccinated students and staff who are identified as close contacts must quarantine for at least 5 days, even if they are asymptomatic. All close contacts should monitor symptoms through day 10. The last day of close contact exposure is day zero, day one starts the first day or isolation or quarantine.

If the close contact occurred in school with an individual is not fully vaccinated (or the employee is booster eligible but has not received a booster), and is not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they may be able to participate in “modified” (in-school) quarantine. Modified quarantine allows students to continue in-person instruction during regular school hours (excluding before and after school care), while under quarantine orders.

If the close contact is not fully vaccinated and the modified quarantine parameters were not met and/or the close contact occurred outside of school, they should quarantine at home and test on day 5 after the last close contact exposure occurred. If the test is negative, they may return on day 6 after the last exposure.

TESTING TO RELEASE FROM ISOLATION

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 and you are asymptomatic, and you wish to take a rapid antigen test on or after Day 5 of your isolation period to return early to work or school, please visit a designated site Monday to Saturday, 7:15 AM to 4:30 PM. Sites are walk-in only (no appointments) and will be available starting Tuesday, January 18.

Si un estudiante o el personal da positivo, se darán las siguientes instrucciones:

• Si dieron positivo en un sitio que no pertenece al LAUSD, asegúrese de que el resultado de la prueba se cargue en el Pase diario.

PRUEBAS PARA LIBERAR DEL AISLAMIENTO
