How do I find books to read?
I usually have a subject area I enjoy reading about, such as "travel". I go to that section of the library and browse. When I see a title that looks interesting, I read the back or inside cover summary, and a page or two. If I am interested, I get the book.
After I have enjoyed that book, I see what other books the author has written and read those. Sometimes the author mentions an interesting book in the book I am reading, and I note it down. Also, I look in the back pages for a recommended reading list and get ideas there.
I go to the public library regularly, to return books and check out new ones. I always look at the new books section, and usually end up getting a book from there. The new book often leads me to other books I may want to read.
Other ways I find books to read is by a friend's recommendation. Sometimes I come across interesting sounding titles in magazine articles I am reading. I also recommend books or authors to friends, if I know of one I think they will enjoy.
I keep a "Reading File" of interesting titles or authors I have come across over the years. If I ever run out of books to read, I can consult my file. Some of my file is reviews torn out of newspapers, some are scraps of paper with authors or titles jotted down. With so many books I currently come across and want to read though, I have not had to use my reading file in years!
